Alfredo Barsuglia - Wohnkultur: Kathedrale der Verschwendung (ArtMagazine April 2023)
On the level, raised by four steps, there is a structure with a small tower. The building exudes something sublime, although it is little more than a wooden shed. The apse of the Dominican Church Krems, which is used as an exhibition space, where the altar once stood, forms the stage for this hut, as we know it from the slums that have developed on the edges of large cities around the globe.

If SpaceX’s latest ambitions become a reality, a spaceship carrying one Japanese billionaire and six to eight artists will blast off from Earth and head for a trip around the moon sometime around 2023. Paint Awash on a Shifting Ground (Goucher 2018)
Shifting Ground traces the trajectory of Greg Minah's work since his sojourn at Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency Program in the summer of 2008—six years during which he has matured as a painter with an original creative process and a distinctive style. Joshua Tree, at the edge of California's Mojave Desert, offered him a tangible break with his native Maryland, some distance literally and figuratively from familiar people, terrain, and art, as well as an opportunity to experiment and take risks, to present himself as a more fully developed artist. The result of this residency was just what curators and jurors hope for: inspiration and a fresh, individual artistic approach.

New Outdoor Sculpture in Vermont: MANIFESTATION (Robert Michael Jones 2017)
Manifestation utilizes old products destined for the landfill to create a ghostly apparition of consumerism. The assembled form of the products is characterized by growth. Mimicking the forested landscape it occupies, positions the sculpture both as nature and in opposition to nature. The sculpture plays with the conception of value with the ultimate transmutation of trash to art, creating a counter narrative to the typical cycle of production - consumption - waste.

"Inland Empire: Part I," By Matthew Moore (Terra Incognita, August 2016)
Think of this post as a sneak preview of a soon to come project that I am tentatively calling Inland Empire. These pictures were all taken during a one month residency at the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist-in-Residence program. For my artist friends, I highly recommend this residency! The location is one mile outside of the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, so the location is perfect. On top of that, the living situation is pretty amazing. Artists get their own house looking out over the desert and in my case I had a studio all to myself. It's also run by two of my new favorite people, Jim and Frederick (you guys rock)!

"How did we get here?" This is a question frequently appended to debates on evolution versus creation. But to artist Joe DeVera, the question serves as a vehicle to retrace the history of conflicts in our time and, in turn, to comprehend the recurring events of human tragedy. His latest body of work, a series of paintings and a site-specific installation, produced in the summer of 2015 at the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency (JTHAR) organized by its program director, Frederick Fulmer, was a testament to his ongoing investigation.

So now that Shea, Andrew, Jed and Zoe have completed their residency and are leaving Joshua Tree it is time for me to reflect on what all this means to me. Many people were touched by these four young artists. People enjoyed meeting them, talking to them and being photographed and interviewed by Zoe. The final show this last Friday and Saturday, July 11th and 12th was an event that many showed up for. It was lively and interesting. There were many points of view, things to be learned and Art to be viewed. For me personally, it was an experience that I will walk away from feeling enriched and expanded.
